You think this one Your Grandfather’s Road ah?
Excuse the dramatics in the post headline. It’s just that when I first heard about this new movie project called Your Grandfather’s Road, that was the first thing that came to my mind.
I had a mental image of people winding down their windscreen while driving, flicking their middle finger at the other car and shouting out that exact line.
But wait, this movie is not about profanities (or it could, you decide).

The brainchild behind this project is producers Amy Lim and Roshan Ravi as well as director Manesh Nesratnam. The idea is to create a “crowd-sourcing” movie where the public is invited to engage with the creators to come out with the script for a multi-plot movie. They already have a pool of writers who contribute to the website, and the public is invited to go in and share their own stories via the comments section of the site. You can also embed a YouTube video or upload pictures.
On Wednesday, Sunny Stories launched Your Grandfather’s Road. There were numerous personalities at the event, held at TGV KLCC, including my friends Cheryl Samad, Tony Eusoff, Rashid Salleh and Zahiril Adzim all of whom featured in the numerous videos shown that night. There was the trailer for season two of Popiah Pictures’ Ghost (starring Cheryl), a screening of Adrian Loh and Manesh’s Baby The Rain Will Fall (featuring Alfred Loh and my The Swimming Instructor co-actor Davina Goh) as well as the premiere of Manesh’s The Invigilator starring Cheryl, Tony and Zahiril.
I was the emcee for the event.

While emceeing the event, I made a reference to how offended I was as a journalist, writer, blogger that I wasn’t included in the pool of writer’s for Your Grandfather’s Road project. I was kidding of course but the next day, I received an email from Amy asking me if I wanted to be their first Driver of the Week where they invite people to share their stories every day for a week.
I have shared one story to date – another one coming soon – in response to the post The Boy Who Peed In Shoes. I share my story about how my mother tamed me as a child and it involves lines and a leash! Check it out here.
Oh, I also shared a picture in the post. I hate to say it myself but damn I was a cute child. Haha!
