To sex or not to sex?

Rantings

Amid all the scandals, I’d like to talk about sex.

I meant to blog about this a few days ago when I read this story, but never got around to it. The New Straits Times article was part of a series on how people are dealing with the economy downturn, and was about how pharmacists are reporting a spike in viagra sales.

It read:

But the biggest increase is in sale of remedies for erectile dysfunction (ED), like Viagra.

“A lot of men are experiencing ED as a result of stress and they are turning to wonder pills like Viagra,” said pharmacist Anand Gonzales.

At least Malaysians are having more “fun” than the Singaporeans, if their Nominated MP Loo Choon Yong’s suggestion is to be considered.

I don’t know how many of you came by this article in the papers the other day (I forgot which paper I saw it in but a quick search in Singapore’s Straits Times’ website produced one version).

The article reports that Loo recommends Singaporeans to work on Saturday. His theory is that five-day weeks (read: more time for “extra-curricular” activities) have not resulted in more babies in Singapore. Therefore, you might as well work more.

‘We should accept that as a people our procreation talent is not our forte – nothing to crow about,’ he said.

‘I urge the Government to take steps to determine whether our productivity and competitiveness have been affected by the five-day week and to review the policy, if necessary,’ he added.

I don’t know about you but I found these two bits of news quite fascinating. Should we turn to sex to de-stress or should we just get more stressed since the sex apparently is not “bearing” (pun truly intended) any fruit?

Good thing the reports are from two different countries or it will indeed be a dilemma (as if we don’t have enough of those in our lives already).

Although, I will say this, at least people in Malaysia and Singapore are having sex, contrary to the perception of prudishness that we have long been associated it, and best of all, I’m sure, much to the chagrin of the moral guardians who should really just leave everyone alone. :)
