The Bangsar Boy: My childhood neighbours

Farizwan and Azida

I don’t often do this, but I thought what the heck. The very beautiful couple in the picture is Farizwan and Azida (or Jida as we call her).

The two tied the know yesterday (actually, the akad nikah ceremony was on Friday) and my whole family, short for my second sister who is away, were there to celebrate with them.

Anyyywayyss, the reason for this post is not to puji-memuji (that’s complimenting, btw) the newlyweds. However, it was the wedding that I used to lead into my topic for my column, The Bangsar Boy, in yesterday’s The Star.

It’s not so much about the things that we used to do together, and our individual stories that we were able to share.

I think the relationship the Pudina Cheongs had forged with the Shaharuddins’ reflected a time in my life when we weren’t so caught up with city life and our personal routines.

And if there was a truth in the saying that “There’s no place like home”, then I’d say that neighbours are pretty darn important, too.

That piece lacks something, probably like you said, you didn’t like the editing done on the article. Probably because of that, the “feel” was not there.

Exactly – my pieces are conventionally sentimental. I thought some of those bits were taken out, and some of my sentences rephrased so it doesn’t sound like me anymore.

A bit sterile, I thought, and choppy. :\
