Anwar Ibrahim: Comeback Kid
Aug 26, 2008 News Breaks
Well, the whole town’s talking about it already (can you imagine the SMS messages), and I don’t think anyone can say they are really surprised.
The final numbers for the Permatang Pauh By-Elections are:
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim - 31,195 votes
Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah - 15,524 votes
Hanafi Hamat - 92 votes (yes, yes, hilang deposit)
I said it during the March 8 elections, and I’ll say it again, let there be no more talk of lack of democracy in this country.
The thing though, is that I hope Anwar is able to fulfill his promises. Not that I am hoping to topple this Government (I have little faith in any politicians in this country, to be honest, whichever party they are from) but because if he isn’t able to do anything, then this election would have been a farce, a waste of money and resources and most of all, because it will diminish any credibility the man had, as well as diminish hope the country have for a better balance of power.
Most of all, I hope this means the end of silly allegations, swearings, statutory declarations and most importantly, over-politicising of everything because it’s time for the country to move on and tackle issues that affect the most important people - the citizens.

Malaysian ruling party women declare ‘jihad’ against Anwar
WHAT THE FUCK? WAH LAU!
How did I miss this story today? Came across this article on MSN News which quotes The Star’s article in today’s paper.
Yes, I do think that the Permatang Pauh by-election is a waste of time and resources, and I have said it before. But jihad?
Come on lah, Kak Ijat, what nonsense is this?

Anwar to be charged and Paris Hilton wants to run for President
Aug 7, 2008 Sounds Like Pop
Amid what looks set to be a turbulent few weeks in Malaysian politics (police and FRU are out in full force at the Jalan Duta Sessions Court as I write this, according to The Star News Alerts - in case you haven’t heard, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to be charged with sodomy in about … er, 19 minutes), I found this video which I thought might cheer some people up.
Context: Paris released this video in response to an advertisement by John McCain, which (underhandedly, IMHO) likens Barack Obama’s celebrity-dom to that of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. (First read about it here, btw)Paris hits back, offers herself as a US Presidential nominee, shares her idea for some policies and, um, even tells you about her plans to repaint the White House.
What colour? Check the video out!

Wan Azizah quits as MP, makes way for Anwar
Jul 31, 2008 News Breaks
This is what I was dreading. I personally think that it is a waste of money to run in an elections and then resign to allow for a by-election. I said this before during the General Elections.
Datuk Dr. Wan Azizah has resigned as Permatang Pauh MP to make way for her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to stand in a by-elections.
The Star reports that the Opposition Leader (former now, I suppose) handed her resignation letter to Parliament Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
It is not only a waste of resources, time and money, it’s also a waste of an MP - I personally thought that Wan Azizah has been doing a good job as Opposition Leader. As far as I’m concerned, this has made the election process a farce.

Anwar Ibrahim arrested
Jul 16, 2008 News Breaks
It was an arrest waiting to happen I suppose.
And I’m sure everyone will be talking about it. Just thought I’d break the news here.
At 1:21pm, I received a Star SMS News Alert which read:
Anwar Ibrahim picked up by police near his home after ACA interview in Putrajaya, taken to city police HQ at 1.15pm.
He was earlier at the ACA office to give his statement on his allegations in a report he had lodged against the Inspector-General of Police and Attorney General. He was quoted as saying that the interview went well but was cut short due to the fact that he had a 2pm deadline to meet the cops to answer allegations on sodomy.
45 minutes before the deadline, he was arrested.
I hope it is not 1998 all over again although many people, CNN included, are already talking about it.
