Obama for President (was Obama creates history)

News Breaks

UPDATE (9.38am):

EVeryone, including CNN, BBC and even The Star, has reported that Senator Barack Obama, has won enough delegates to make him the first black presidential candidate.

Am also currently watching live on Yahoo! News Hillary Clinton’s address in New York. She sounds like she’s conceding, but she also mentioned that: “Where do we go from here? I am making no decisions tonight”.

Not sure how this works (her not conceding defeat) if everyone thinks that Obama already have the numbers – unless this has something to do with the confusing delegates system they have. Hmmm … I wonder if the decisions is not about dropping out but about where she goes on from here, as once the best bet to be the Democratic candidate for the US Presidential elections back to becoming just a Senator. Vice president, ma’am?

… that is, if the AP tally is accurate.

The Associate Press is reporting that Senator Barrack Obama has “effectively” won enough delegates to win the Democratic Party’s presidency bid. This would make him the first ever black candidate in United States history to campaign to be US President.

This report was released by AP just 14 minutes ago. It states:

“The tally was based on public declarations from delegates as well as from another 15 who have confirmed their intentions to the AP. It also included 11 delegates Obama was guaranteed as long as he gained 30 percent of the vote in South Dakota and Montana later in the day. It takes 2,118 delegates to clinch the nomination.”

An hour before that, the news agency reported that his competitor Senator Hillary Clinton (who would have been the first female presidential candidate) will concede defeat, should he get enough votes in South Dakota and Montana.

If all the primaries and caucauses from the past few months are anything to go by, Barrack Obama should get those 11 delegates.

But the drama continues because CNN is reporting that Clinton’s top aide is denying a possible concession, just after AP released that report. All eyes will be on the United States today as the votes are counted.

Personally, I’m not sure if she’ll give it up ‘cos she’s a fighter (and that is why I was rooting for her all this while). But I am a realist as well, so I think it’s about time to concede (yes, Nicholas, you win).

Can I now hope for a Obama-Clinton ticket to take on old McCain? I certainly hope so. I think we’ve had enough Republican with ‘W’ to last us a lifetime.
