My busy Merdeka (or Happy Independence Day, Malaysia)

Events

Selamat Hari Merdeka!

Good morning, folks! I woke up to many SMS messages whining about the problems in our country and calls to wear black to “commemorate” 1 Black Malaysia  but I won’t. Whatever has happened or is happening in Malaysia is not the fault of my country, but instead the fault of some of the people who represent its, and some others who live in it.

Despite it all, the country has been good to me. And it’s home.

Now, back to our regular programming …

Today’s a busy day for little ol’ me. Three events in one day is a lot even for someone like me who just haven’t learned how to sit still! And all have a public service element to it – I’m such a charitable fellow *cough*

First up is the No Plastic Bag Bazaar, to be held at Noble Banquet along Jalan Bukit Bintang. The event will start from noon and go until about 6pm and is organised by The Recyclist. You can read about it here on my blog post about it a few days ago.

The Recyclists are back with the 2nd installment of the No Plastic Bag series of events! Our aim and greatest hope is educate and promote a greener lifestyle while raising funds in support of projects by the Furry Friends Farm (FFF) and the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS).

I’ll be there very early on because I have to rush off at 1pm or so towards the secret meeting location for RA’s Merdeka Train Party, to wish Malaysia and Malaysians a Happy Merdeka! This time, RA is partnering up with R.AGE, with the support of Keihl’s to organise this event.

MTP and partners

I’m sure I’ve written enough about R.AGE here but in case you don’t know, R.AGE is the youth platform for The Star. Kiehl’s on the other hand, is a personal care brand (founded as an old-world apothecary in New York’s East Village neighborhood over 150 years ago) which is relatively new in Malaysia but already have five stores in KL including at Pavilion KL, Mid Valley Megamall and their newest branch, Bangsar Shopping Centre.

I’ll definitely be posting up some images from the Merdeka Train Project later tonight (or tomorrow at the latest) but you can read my Tweets from the event here. We’re mobilising more than 200 people to decorate some trains around town, how exciting!

Lastly, I will be heading down to Delicious at Marc’s Residence tonight for the launch of RA+D. Two T-shirt designs, continuing RandomAttire’s I Heart KL collection, will be revealed as well as the beneficiary organisations that Delicious has pledged RM5 to for the sale of each.

Then back home, sleep before it’s work again tomorrow. It’ll be busy but I’d say it’s 1Merdeka (pun truly intended) well spent. Enjoy the last day of your long weekend, folks! :) My birthday month begins tomorrow!
