I mean, get a new scriptwriter please.
I wasn’t actually going to blog about this because I thought, what the heck man, every time a new artiste is announced, sure got press release. But then I just read this article in The Star titled: Understanding reached on Beyonce’s costume.
Truth be told, I want to know what the “understanding” is. According to the article, concert organiser Marctensia media liaison officer Goh Yoke Leng didn’t want to comment on it. It reads:
Without revealing what the “amicable understanding” was, concert organiser Marctensia media liaison officer Goh Yoke Leng said:
“We are confident that Beyonce’s concert will once and for all silence international critics and put Malaysia back on track and move up the ranks in presenting A-list international pop concerts in this region and further boost tourism.”
More than what the “understanding” is, I’d really like to know between which parties was this “understanding” made? With the Ministry? Or with PAS?
Why is the “understanding” necessary anyway? Unlike the Black Eyed Peas fiasco with Guinness the organisers of Arthur’s Day, I don’t recall reading anything about an actual ban on Beyonce. In fact, didn’t she cancel on us two years ago instead of us not allowing her to perform?
And besides, if you’re really sooooo worried about how she’s dressed, maybe we need a ban on MTV, Channel V and, heaven forbid, the Internet. It makes no sense.
I just hope the “understanding” isn’t something silly like what they did when Mariah Carey performed in KL a few years ago. Local designer Michael Ong created two “Malaysianfied” costumes for Mariah to wear to suit our culture – whatever that is – only to have the singer, umm, not wear them.
Besides, why hasn’t PAS said anything about Black Eyed Peas (apologies if they have, but I don’t recall anything and a quick search on Google doesn’t bring up anything – but I stand to be corrected), who have just arrived today – you can watch the video of their arrival here.
Don’t know lah. I’m at the stage where I’m so bored with them – I mean, the Michael Learns To Rock protest really takes the cake. So, I shouldn’t be surprised at their moronic behaviour and well, lack of originality.
There was a Tweet by one of my bosses, @saiwanstar, which reads:
Ban Beyonce? let’s start a campaign to ban PAS youth because they r stupid & insensitive – send all requests to the hadi and anwar ibrahim
Hmm, that’s a thought.

Nothing new Niki! I thing they have to do so to make them look pious? If not they are not considered to be religious? :/
Don’t you think that the freedom to protest is err.. part of democracy?
Anybody can protest all they want right? I can protest Black Eye Peas performing all I want because I find their music is repetitive, boring and borderline annoying.
However I can’t stop people from choosing to waste their time and money if they really want to watch the Black Eye Peas,.. right?
What PAS youth, the media and other should know is that there is a different between ‘protesting’ and ‘banning’ certain acts,… errr right? No? am I rambling? haha…
Very well said. I shall say nothing more other than I want tix to watch Beyonce!! =)
Tekkaus: Whatever their reasons lah, I just feel like sometimes they are imposing their values on us.
Jibone:Oh totally! Except their protest are calling for a ban
Syaf: So do I!
