I heart my Moleskine Helvetica

Sounds Like Pop

Look what I got my hands on? Aren’t they pretty?

Moleskine Helvetica

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is the Moleskine Helvetica. I have one of each colour (as you can see) of these limited edition Moleskine notebooks (only 500 copies in its Asia release).

For those of you not familiar, its website describes Moleskine as:

Moleskine was created as a brand in 1997, bringing back to life the legendary notebook used by artists and thinkers over the past two century: among them Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Bruce Chatwin. A trusted and handy travel companion, the nameless black notebook held invaluable sketches, notes, stories, and ideas that would one day become famous paintings or the pages of beloved books.

In terms of physicality, this site describes it well:

A simple black rectangle with squared or lined pages, endleaves held by an elastic band, an inside pocket for loose sheets, a binding in ‘moleskine’ which gives it its name, this trusty, pocket-size traveling companion guarded notes, stories, thoughts and impressions before they turned into the pages of beloved books.

I was first introduced to the notebooks a couple of years ago when one was given to me as a gift. I now own quite a few of them which I use for different purposes – to take notes down at meetings, a book to jot down my thoughts etc.

The two that I just bought yesterday was a special edition version to commemorate the Helvetica font (hence it’s name). Did you see how I in my genius conveniently used the Helvetica font for my watermark in the picture above? *cough*

I managed to get myself the last two – one of each colour – that Czip Lee (a stationery store in Bangsar) had yesterday – although they managed to get a few more in today. How’s that for a plug? :o )

Thing is, they were quite expensive at RM93 each (thanks to @cziplee for the generous discount!) so I’m in two minds about using them.

So I’d like to hear from you folks. Should I leave them in the plastic wrapper as in the picture above, or should I rip it off and start scribbling into them?

a moleskin isn’t a moleskin when it’s not being used. it’s just a stack of papers bounded by elastic band. ;)
