If you guys have (and I’m trying to be very the perasan here) been wondering what I’ve been so busy with, I’m currently participating in a Shakespeare for Theatre workshop and have been for the past couple of weeks. I blogged about it here, excusing myself from more frequent updates on this blog.
From The Page And Onto The Floor is the name of the workshop, and is conducted by Australian actor/director/academic Jeff Kevins, who has been brilliant! It is being held in conjunction with Australia Month at KLpac.
The workshop culminates with a showcase performance and well, it’s almost time for that! Tomorrow night, we will be opening doors to the first of four shows we will be doing this weekend.
Participating in the workshop, and thus, also performing are:
We will be staging exerpts from four popular Shakespearean pieces such as Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. Many of us take on multiple roles.
I won’t give too much away about my roles, but see if you recognise this line:
Sleep dwell upon thine eyes; peace in thy breast.
Would I were sleep and peace so sweet to rest.
It’s a showcase so it cannot be taken as a full fledged production. After all, we usualyl rehearse for months before a show start – with this, rehearsals were practically a week (including memorising our lines!) because the week before that, we were learning all these Bard-ish stuff. This week was mostly just getting everything sorted for tomorrow. Tonight is the full-dress rehearsal.
If there are any of you keen on coming, I believe there are a few tickets left (very few actually). Shows are on Friday and Sat at 8.30pm; Sat and Sun at 3pm. Ticket price is only RM10! Call 03 4047 9000. Have your credit cards handy.
