When David Cook chose to sing Always Be My Baby during the week Mariah Carey was the mentor on American Idol two years ago, she complimented his fresh approach to the song – new arrangement and all.
She said something along the lines of how proud it made her feel as a songwriter to hear such a different take on her song, and that it could stand the test of time.
I’m not a musician but I think I know what she means. After all, that was what crossed my mind the moment I heard this rendition of Poker Face by Chris Daughtry (got it off Twitter, forgot who linked it, sorry!).

Well, I really enjoyed it. Almost as much as I liked David’s version of Mariah’s song (yes, we’re all on first name basis hehe). You can hear Mariah talking about him singing it in the clip below too.
