The Bangsar Boy: Optimistic about 2009
Dec 27, 2008 The Bangsar Boy
Call me naive but I have great faith that we will overcome 2009.
The predictions are not good, yet I believe that the power of humanity - our sheer will to survive, live and enjoy - will help us get the year through.
This is the premise of my latest The Bangsar Boy article - the last for 2008 - published today in the StarMetro section of The Star.
Many people are saying that it is hard to be optimistic about next year. But I think that if we set our hearts to it, adapt our lifestyle a little and think of the times we’ve overcome hardship, then there’s no reason why we can’t ride out the coming year.
In the article, I reflect a little on 2008 - what significant moments there was for me personally, and the major moments in world news. I talk about how human strength has been proven over and over again.
And I talk about how all these lessons will help us make it through 2009, as it has helped us through many other years.
It’s almost time to bid 2008 farewell, and say hi to 2009. But I’ve got a few days left. I’m going to enjoy it.

Merry Christmas from The Bangsar Boy
Dec 25, 2008 The Bangsar Boy
First up, a happy, Merry Christmas to everyone!
My family did our presents swapping yesterday - so today, life goes on as usual - except that I have a show at 3pm.
I just wanted to share with you guys what Christmas means to me and my family. I actually wrote about it in my The Bangsar Boy column almost two weeks ago. But I also make a reference to A Christmas Carol in the article and didn’t want to blog it then as I think I was on a theatre overload on my blog.
So, I thought I’d share it with you on the most meaningful of days - Christmas! Here’s an excerpt:
I am thankful that my mum and dad had known this all along and created their own tradition for Christmas eve to remind us each year of how lucky we just are that we have each other and are able to afford presents, let alone the delicious meal we have on Christmas day.
You can read the full article here.
And once again, Merry Christmas, one and all! Ho ho ho!

I was on television
Nov 30, 2008 The Bangsar Boy
What a syok sendiri headline but oh well, I was. :P
This was on Thursday morning and it was the NTV7 breakfast show. Nas and Leya were the host but because there were four of us - Nicole, Gowri, Az’farr and me - only Nas handled our segment (unless that how they do it all the time and I never, er, watch).
Anyway, in case you haven’t read my blog recently (or ever) and don’t know what on earth a guy like me would be on TV for, it’s because come Dec 12, I will be acting in a play called A Christmas Carol at KLpac.
I’ve talked a bit about the show, and I guarantee you I will be mentioning it a couple more times - at least - so why don’t you click on this link (if it doesn’t work, just look for the Nov 27 episode. We are featured in Part 4) and check out the NTV7 Breakfast Show segment I was on, and get some details about the show.
Oh yeah, and please watch the show.
And since this is a self-plug post (like you didn’t see it coming!), I’m just gonna merge my usual The Bangsar Boy update here. Too much of Niki is never a good thing … if I do say so myself.
Anyway, I couldn’t write about this earlier as I was away (read previous post) but this week, I talk a bit about fashion - my fashion sense (or lack of it - you decide) - which stemmed from my earlier post about my first fashion show.
I talk about some of my fashion faux pas, and some instances that got me really annoyed. To read the article, click here.
I’m back from my trip but extremely tired so I’ll sign off here. Until tomorrow folks.

The nostalgic Mr. Niki
Nov 15, 2008 The Bangsar Boy
Yes, this week in The Bangsar Boy, I get all nostalgic and (kinda) walk down memory lane again. Surprise, surprise! haha
I mention in the article about the major transformation of Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC, as we know it) and how each day, as I pass it, I try to remember what it was like - when it was just phase 1, and then when they added the new wing and now with the renovations.
On the way to work (and back), I drive past Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) – currently undergoing a major transformation – and am reminded about how little I, well, remember of its past.
I keep trying to recall how the old wing looked like before the construction happened. This is considering the fact that I live just down the street from it, and was playing around the construction site when the original wing was being built (never mind the dangers of cycling and skating in a construction site).
I will be heading out there in a bit to snap a photo of it - as I promised in my article. I wonder if this might be the start of a series of photo uploads along the lines of Edwin’s Kuala Lumpur Daily Photo and Jerome’s Hanoi Daily Photo, which I help plug in my article.
I’ll keep you updated if my project goes as planned.

The Bangsar Boy: Addicted to the net
Nov 1, 2008 The Bangsar Boy
Yeah, I know. Like it’s a big surprise. Still, I will declare my loyalty to this amazing (if I do say so myself, and I’m sure many others would agree) pasttime called:
BLOGGING
Yes, today, The Bangsar Boy pays tribute to the wonders of the Internet - and in particular, blogging and Twittering. Read the article here.
Yes, I know, it may look like a shameless plug for my blog but really, it didn’t make much of a difference. I probably got an extra 5 hits. I’m not kidding.
Either people who read the papers don’t have access to the Internet or … well, no one reads my column. Which is why, I have to plug it here :)
This is a short post before I head out for a fun time tonight. I won’t say what it is for now, but if I get sufficient photos - it might just be a blog post tomorrow. Hope your weekend’s going well, folks!
