Face Off: Iron Man takes on The Dark Knight

Meow.
Catwoman would be so proud.

A recent interview on Moviehole quoted Robert Downey Jr aka Iron Man as saying:
“My whole thing is that that I saw The Dark Knight. I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get how many things that are so smart. It’s like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ I loved The Prestige but didn’t understand The Dark Knight. Didn’t get it, still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it. This is so high brow and so f–king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’ You know what? F-ck DC comics. That’s all I have to say and that’s where I’m really coming from.”
I loved Iron Man and I love The Dark Knight - both were the best superhero movies I’ve seen in a long while. Downey Jr, arguably one of my favourite actors ever has already begun some work on Iron Man 2 so I can’t wait.
I don’t suppose he’ll be doing a DC movie anytime soon, but doesn’t sound like he cares. I wonder if Christopher Nolan or DC will respond?

Aug 5, 2008 People
Update (10.58pm Malaysian time)
If you’re a fan of Michael/光良,you can vote for him for the 8th Global Chinese Music Awards.
Received an email this morning from Sam, Michael’s manager with a copy of the poster. So here’s a quick plug for a friend (click on the image below for a larger version):
I am in the process of saving up for to head to Taipei for the concert. I’ve never been to Taiwan so it was a good opportunity, plus, it fits with my Visit Asia Year 2008 pledge (so far Koh Lanta, Thailand and of course Laos).
I can’t read the poster (it’s in Chinese after all) but the concert will be held in Taipei on Nov 15. This is the final concert - finale! - of 光良/Michael’s World Tour Series and also his first concert in Taipei!

Slavery!

Fifa President Sepp Blatter on the Ronaldo tug-of-war between Manchester United and Real Madrid:
“The important thing is we should also protect the player,” Blatter told Sky News.
“If the player wants to play somewhere else, then a solution should be found because if he stays in a club where he does not feel comfortable to play then it’s not good for the player and for the club.
“I’m always in favour of protecting the player and if the player, he wants to leave, let him leave.”
I think in football there’s too much modern slavery in transferring players or buying players here and there, and putting them somewhere,” - AFP

Tennis: And Rafael Nadal takes the trophy!
Jun 8, 2008 News Breaks, People
I am sitting here watching on television a very solemn Roger Federer half-heartedly lift up his runners-up plague on the prize giving platform at Roland Garros, while Rafael Nadal tears up as he looks at the Spain flag being hosited up to the country’s national anthem.
Considering the amount of times he’s won there, they might as well play a Rafael Nadal song.
Yes, this clay-court genius has just won his fourth-straight title in the French Open Grand Slam - equaling the record held by the great Bjorn Borg. Borg won six French Open titles in his career, four of which was won 1978-1981. Borg presented Nadal with his trophy.
Roger Federer didn’t even play THAT badly in the match where Nadal tamed him 6-1, 6-3, 6-0. But Nadal was spectacular - absolutely brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
These are the two best players in the world at the moment (plus the upcoming Novak Djokovic) and I’m so glad that I was able to watch the two of them play in Kuala Lumpur live when they were here last year.
I do feel bad for Roger Federer but I would rather Nadal beat Borg’s record (which means he has to win again next year!) before Federer takes the only elusive Grand Slam trophy to rightly be declared the world’s greatest tennis player ever.
The French Open is over. Now, we can really look forward to the Wimbledon. Bring it on!

Update (10.13pm):
At the bottom of this post, I mention that I’m too depressed to link to any sites. But I just saw this one titled Malaysia will launch another astronaut into space tonight … - which is bloody hilarious - and this one titled Petrol price hike … again!, which I thought was rather interesting.
Sigh.
Don’t suppose much needs to be said. If fuel is the current buzzword, then those three digits have got to be buzz numbers.
The sigh says everything I feel at the moment. That’s all I have to say on the subject.
I drove out (using mum’s car! heh heh) to Bangsar Village earlier to buy something and thought I’d drive past some petrol stations to see what’s going on (I had already pumped a full tank yesterday). I passed one Petronas and there were cones in front of all the petrol stations. Not sure if they ran out or they didn’t want to sell it (are they allowed to do that?).
Anyway, this was about 7.10pm and by the time I passed it again at 8.30pm on the way back (I wasn’t buying that many things, but the traffic was crazy), there were lines and lines of cars waiting to fill up. This was the same scenario at three different petrol stations I passed although, I have to say, that Petronas and BhP were the most popular, I could actually count the number of cars (17) at Shell.
Can’t even call these people kiasu - after all, at the moment, my Waja’s full tank is about RM110 - tomorrow, it’ll be about RM155-160. That’s like RM40-50 bucks saved man.
And that, by the way, explains the jam I was stuck in.
Oh, and I’m still sighing by the way. (Too depressed to link to any articles etc).
