The official postponement press statement by Beyonce’s Artiste Management, Music World will be released by this week. The postponement is solely decision of the Artiste and has nothing to do with other external reasons.

Now, don’t go quoting me and all but word on the ‘sphere is that Beyonce’s I Am … tour to Malaysia is going to be, um, cancelled.

Not that I’m very surprised anyway.

There is no official news yet but some people have been quoting a Marketing Manager from Maxis saying that there might be an announcement tomorrow. The Marketing Manager has not been identified, naturally, but we’ll see if the sub-headline to the cancellation announcement (if it happens) reads: “Marketing Manager fired”.

Actually, it was really strange how this all came about for me. I was just talking to Ivy about how I heard it’s been cancelled (my source is NOT that Marketing Manager mind you, but shall remain anonymous) – we actually heard about a month ago that the concert wasn’t happening.

Then I go on Twitter and everyone’s talking about the cancellation – based on an article from two years ago (when she really did cancel on us in favour of Indonesia). So, the Tweets went from “It’s cancelled” to “Isn’t this a really old article” to “Oh, gosh, I’m sorry” to “Alert! It’s not cancelled! Old article”.

Then the Tweets about the Marketing Manager made it’s rounds. Another friend said that it’s “postponed”.

Aiyah, dunno lah. I suppose we can only wait for the next couple of days before an official statement will come out (if the concert really is cancelled).

The Zestful IcedNyior, on her blog, notes that Malaysia is not listed in list of scheduled concerts on Byonce’s site.

I love how many people are saying, “How can they cancel Beyonce”. Not many people are blaming her for cancelling on us (again!). Heh Heh

That said, KimberlyCun Tweeted saying that the official reason would probably be “Scheduling conflict” while the real reason is: “Diva”.

Could be. Or maybe this is her way at getting back at her for all the horrible things we said about her when she cancelled on us, and how *ahem* PASsionately and RAISolutely some people were opposing her concert here.

Oh well … it’s not such a big loss for me. I didn’t but tickets but if I did, I probably could only afford the cheap tickets. Might as well watch her on YouTube.

Wait, we might have to do just that right now.

  3. Josh Lim says:

Hey Niki, I blogged about this too…No news since Feb 2009 on Rihanna. Guess that this may be the same case. Well, or the concert will definitely not be rescheduled to anytime before 14 Nov 2009.

IcedNyior: No worries :) Thanks to you too. Truth be told though, I have come across artistes who don’t update their sites with some details – but yeah, since they mentioned Seoul and China, no reason not to mention Malaysia.

Josh: Ah, saw your post! 14 Nov? Cos that’s when the last concert on her schedule has been posted on her site? :)

Kennee: Haha Yes, how’s your heart doing?

runwitme: Sorry man, I know you were really looking forward to it.

Swee Ping and kenwooi: I know what you mean.

  9. Gallivanter says:

Actually, I don’t believe that there was a signed agreement in the first place. The organizers went ahead promoting the concert and selling the tickets, and also the press release (press release these days – NO value), hoping that Beyonce would reach an agreement with Malaysia.

The concert, was never listed on any of her official websites, except through press releases, again, as I mentioned, holds no value.

    Sigh.

  10. ANTI PAS says:

Well, its PAS’s fault. For most cancellations, cos they say we are so ‘conservative’ that we cant have “sexy western performers” dancing on the stage. Puhlease. Grow up. Guess what, its not zaman Jahiliah now, pls stop making Msia move backwards. Just go home and fck la. Thats all ur gd for.

  11. stupas says:

again when PAS and the so called the extremist islam get hand on this, people get scared to come to malaysia…please la are u sure people who attend nasyid concert doesnt make maksiat after that? walla weh we see enough people with tudung covered make sex project live at youtube , so?

  12. niki says:

Gallivanter: I don’t know if that really happened, but if so, then it’s really, really sad for Malaysia.

ANTI PAS & Stupas: Let’s wait till we get the official reason for the cancellation before we start blaming shall we? After all, she did agree to come back even though she cancelled on us a couple of years ago for the same reason. Surely, she didn’t expect the rules and people to change so fast? Unless, of course, what Gallivanter is saying is true.

  13. V says:

This just reflects on how we handle things. The officials, regardless of who u guys are, should confirm the event before promoting and creating false hope. In the future the Malaysian consumers will not trust any promos… it’s gonna be another “yeah right / BS ‘ show.

Official shld have us Malaysian consumers at top of mind and first priority. Soon ppl are gonna fled to Spore or BKK for entertainment and thus be spending money outbound. So much for pumping funds back into the local economy. My point is, confirm it first then promote it! That’s all. Tak pi sekolah ke??? If political parties do not allow these shows to be performed here then don’t even promote it the first place. Organisers are to blame as well as the media too. Don’t tempt us then take it away! Its ok, we rather not have anyone here at all in the first place, than taking our tickets away at the last minute.

PS: FYI I bought rihanna tickets and B too. I nearly flew to Spore to watch Byonce a few weeks ago but thot , nvm its better to support our local organisers here… boy was that a bloody mistake for being concerned for our local organisers. When we don’t support the local system, we are to blame.. What’s going on? Hypocrisy! Empty promises! Cakap jer ye ye. The fact is some ppl are not performing or doing their work or just don’t give a too hoot about the Malaysian consumers. It’s time we stand up to this and stop being treated like guinea pigs!

    Yeah right, Malaysia Boleh…!!
