I was on television
Nov 30, 2008 The Bangsar Boy
What a syok sendiri headline but oh well, I was. :P
This was on Thursday morning and it was the NTV7 breakfast show. Nas and Leya were the host but because there were four of us - Nicole, Gowri, Az’farr and me - only Nas handled our segment (unless that how they do it all the time and I never, er, watch).
Anyway, in case you haven’t read my blog recently (or ever) and don’t know what on earth a guy like me would be on TV for, it’s because come Dec 12, I will be acting in a play called A Christmas Carol at KLpac.
I’ve talked a bit about the show, and I guarantee you I will be mentioning it a couple more times - at least - so why don’t you click on this link (if it doesn’t work, just look for the Nov 27 episode. We are featured in Part 4) and check out the NTV7 Breakfast Show segment I was on, and get some details about the show.
Oh yeah, and please watch the show.
And since this is a self-plug post (like you didn’t see it coming!), I’m just gonna merge my usual The Bangsar Boy update here. Too much of Niki is never a good thing … if I do say so myself.
Anyway, I couldn’t write about this earlier as I was away (read previous post) but this week, I talk a bit about fashion - my fashion sense (or lack of it - you decide) - which stemmed from my earlier post about my first fashion show.
I talk about some of my fashion faux pas, and some instances that got me really annoyed. To read the article, click here.
I’m back from my trip but extremely tired so I’ll sign off here. Until tomorrow folks.

Niki will be right back
Nov 28, 2008 Announcements
Well, in a couple of days time.
I’m heading out of state shortly, taking a drive to Lenggeng, near Semenyih in Negri Sembilan (slightly more than an hour out of KL - hey, I never said Malaysia was very big!) to run a youth communication workshop called The BRATs Alternative Programme.
I moan about it a lot but I secretly enjoy these workshops - young people give out a great energy, keeps you on your toes and so much to learn from them.
I’ll be back on Sunday (straight to rehearsals!) but will try to see if I can’t update from there. There’s definitely no Internet connection but I’ll see what kind of connection I can get from my phone to post a picture or two up.
Have a good weekend, folks. And to my lovely American friends, Happy Thanksgiving.

My first catwalk experience
Nov 27, 2008 Events

No, that’s not me but yes, uhuh uhuh, I did it! :P It was crazy. I was a nervous wreck (so I gulped down a glass of wine and tried to sip from everyone who was holding a bottle of baby champagne) but it went well.
It was the housearming (not launch, since they’ve been open for a few months now) of the M stores (for men and for women) at The Gardens and they invited some personalities including Ning Baizura, Elaine Daly, Chef Wan, Dzireena Mahathir, William Kee, Hansen Lee, Jonathan Putra, Camelia and er, moi!
I walked down with Elaine and I think the nervousness showed on my face. We were to walk from one end of the shiny, silver catwat (scattered with confetti) to another. After we took our first pose (well, she posed, I just took there like a freak), I slid a little bit on the confetti and had to chase Elaine down!

I just smiled like a loser the whole time, I didn’t know what to do! But it was a nice crowd though (there’s Sandra in the picture and I saw Rubin, Leong, Leon, Marina, Vivienne and many other friends there), friendly and familiar faces (I thought everyone would be at the MIFW ‘08 event but I suppose they went after) and it was good to catch up with some friends.
I don’t have pictures of myself (too shy to camwhore) but I was wearing a Just Cavalli shirt, Rock & Republic Jeans and had a Tom Ford sunnies on my head. All amounting to more than my two months salary, mind you!
Thanks to the folks at Melium - I had good fun (the drinks helped!).

Muggles playing Quidditch
Nov 25, 2008 Sounds Like Pop
I read about this via a Tweet from @guykawasaki and though it was a must share here on my blog! I’m not quite sure if humans should be playing quidditch - the popular game on brooms in the magical world of Harry Potter - but boy, from the video, it looks even more dangerous than rugby or American Football! :)
But cute anyway. It’s like a fusion of touch rugby, handball and er, cosplay. This is an indication though of the impact Harry Potter has on popular culture. Good on you JK Rowling!
I love this one line in the comments though - really funny I thought.
There is already a muggle quidditch. Its called football, or soccer.
Heh heh

Fatwa against yoga
Nov 24, 2008 News Breaks
Expecting a backlash from Malaysians on the decision, Shukor reminded non-Muslims not to question the fatwa.
“We respect the harmony and freedom of practice of other races. This is not something for non-Muslims to interfere in or question as this matter involves Muslims and their faith. (From NST)
Since there is a reminder, I shall not say much about the issue. So, why don’t you click here instead.
And here are just some of the many reports in the papers over the past couple of days.
In case you don’t know what I am not talking about, the National Fatwa Council has declared yoga as haram for Muslims in Malaysia. The Hindu Sangham has asked for the Council to be more “sensitive”, while cancer survivors are not happy. The Perak Religious Department said that they will abide by the Fatwa, while The Star just sent an SMS news alert stating that the Sultan of Selangor has said that ban in his state has yet to be implemented as it has not been brought before the state fatwa committee.
Also, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zaid Hamidi has asked non-Muslim NGOs not to challege the Council’s credibility. Meanwhile, Malaysiakini reports that MIC President Datuk Seri Samy Vellu said that he will meet with PM Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to discuss the yoga ban.
